Normal life

I see I haven’t posted since we took Chloe back on Wednesday. But life has been basically boring since then, so there hasn’t been much to report on.

We worked on the porch roof on the house in Chetek yesterday, but got rained out at about noon. We dawdled at the youth center for an hour and a half, hoping it would blow over, but no such luck, so we came home and worked at bit on the houses there. It did clear up, eventually, but not with enough time to get much done before Don’s shift at the youth center.

We are going to try again today, but we have to wait until after the tenant’s baby wakes up around 3:00. So, we are off to haul the used cabinets I bought for 126 into 117, where I can try painting them. The fun never ends!

Day Three with pictures

Off to work again this a.m. Exercises classes were not as scary today, since she knew everyone already. She was happy to play on her own more today, although she did join in on some of it, to the delight of the ladies.

Here are pictures of her with a couple co-workers:

Then here is a picture of her on her blanket of toys in the exercise room and another of her reading under my desk while I worked on addressing birthday cards.  I think everyone will find things rather dull tomorrow with Chloe gone!

It’s probably good that she is going home today, though, because a water main apparently broke down the street from our house and we don’t have any water. They are out with their trucks working on it – we’ll see how that goes!  I don’t know how we can get by without water this time of year!!

Day Two

I had to wake Chloe up this a.m. I think I wore her out yesterday! I had a chiropractor appt. at 7:30, too, so we had to be “ready to roll” (as Chloe says) by 7:15. That was not enough time to finish her breakfast, so she was a little light on food. She did get milk today, though, so that helped! I’m not worried that she will starve.

Work was all different classes today, all of which she tried a little. She did some tai chi, then laid out her blanket of toys and played, then she did a little exercise on the exercise ball, then basically watched us finish strength training. She did try the weights, too, a little. And she also did a bit in the arthritis exercise class, but mostly she kept us all entertained in that class! There were only 5 of us, so she was a bigger part of the group.

Then it was off to Dairy Queen for french fries and catsup with a side of a couple bites of a chicken sandwich.  Then the library, which was closed, and the drug store, where she scored a safety pop, which she managed to wiggle off the safety stick and have the whole darn thing in her mouth with no stick. I made her sit still and suck it until it was thin enough, then chew it up.

She is now taking her nap. I was mowing while she slept, except the wheel just fell off the mower (back one, this time…. grrrrr.) Dad is coming home early and we are going to take her to the little zoo, playground, kiddie pool in Irvine Park (Chippewa Falls).  So I’ll post pictures later of that adventure!

So far, so good

Chloe seems to be having a good time. She is down for her nap, now, and she went to bed so well and fell right asleep and even slept through a couple of piano lessons right under her room. But she did have a busy morning with exercise classes and meeting everyone at work and talking her head off! We also went grocery shopping and then she ate a great lunch. After she wakes up, we will head to the other house where she can play while I pick beans and break the ends off. At some point we will also go to the school playground to play on the really good stuff.

She sure is a talker. And a champion “why-asker.” Keeps me thinking all the time!

Pictures later, I promise.

Time of plenty

The cherry tree was full of ripe cherries this a.m. and it was bean picking day again. Yesterday I worked on raspberries that I bought from a fella from work. And, finally, a picture of the whole row of fuzzy flowers along the driveway.

Tomorrow’s the day, finally!

I just put the primer on the walls of the bathroom upstairs. Tomorrow morning I put on the final coat, then Dad sets the toilet and sink and, voila! I have an upstairs bathroom tomorrow night! After three years of being a one bathroom house, we will be a bath and a half house. Pretty cool, huh? And just in time for Chloe. Now if it would just cool down so we could stand to sleep upstairs. It was supposed to be cool today, but it didn’t turn out that way. So we’ll be spending another night on the floor of the t.v. room. But tomorrow, I don’t care what the weather is like, we are going to sleep upstairs so I can use my new bathroom. I think I’ll drink lots of lemonade before bed. 🙂

The plants like it

The plants all seem to love this heat. It seems to particularly affect the growth of the stems and leaves, but not the fruit so much. My tomatoes are growing all over each other and everything else and the vine crops are sending out a foot or more a day, it looks like. The beans are finally ready. We had just a small batch for snack last night after I noticed they were ready. I’ll probably pick them tomorrow when there are enough ready to freeze some. I do have to pick the chard this evening, though. I’m going to wait for it to get a little cooler.

Some more flower pictures for you:

These are the fuzzy flowers along the driveway. They are really taking their time opening, which is great.

These are such a nice pale yellow lily. They are really gorgeous in person.

And it turns out the tree in the back yard is a cherry tree!

My gracious, it’s hot

They warned us and we knew it was coming. But it still takes your breath away just how hot it is today. And our heat index only got up to about 106. I can’t even imagine the 120 they had down south last week.

We went to Chippewa because Dad had to do an inservice. I just read in the nice cool waiting room, then we went to McD’s for lunch and did some shopping at Walmart and headed home. The rest of the day I’ve just stayed inside. I got a walk in this a.m. before it got too hot and don’t intend to go out again! Dad worked on sheet rock mudding upstairs and I sat at the computer working on my book. We both made good progress, and he is now in watching a Jackie Chan movie. It’s only a few days a year that it is actually too hot to do anything outside and we intend to just wait them out. That is until the grass needs to be mowed on Tuesday! The grass up on the hill in the country is due for a cutting tomorrow, but I don’t think I’ll do it. It can wait until after Wednesday, when it looks like it will cool down significantly.

We had the first of our zucchini from our garden yesterday. They were nice and small and were very yummy cooked with onions and stewed tomatoes. Soon we will have green beans.

Just waiting on pins and needles for Erica and Tim’s call!
