Since Amy mentioned it, I’ll update on that. We (the dentist and I) tried a different approach this time. Since I’ve been having such a time getting numb on the lower jaw, I came in earlier to let the numbing stuff have a little more time to work. He also changed where he put it a little. Basically it all went very well. There was just one spot that wasn’t numb and he only touched that a couple times. So I’m in my temporary crown and awaiting the actual crown on the 3rd, I think it is. So, the most painful part of this visit, for a change, was the expense!
That is so weird. Luke has the exact same problem. He goes in to the dentist and he says that it never gets numb enough – that he can always feel them drilling and is in horrible pain. I’ve never heard of that before! Does anyone else in the family have that problem?
I used to always get gas AND novocain just because I was so freaked out about it. But I don’t seem to have nearly as much of a problem with getting numb as Mom (or Luke it sound like). My problem lies in having to have SO MUCH done every time I go in because of my soft teeth. And now that we’re adults and have to pay for it we end up just putting it off, and putting it off, and putting it off… haha!
Mom, I’m glad they’ve finally figured out a solution to the painful problem! (well, besides the pain of the cost, of course… they should really do something about that too!)
Luke should change dentists if he has a dentist who continues to work when he is in terrible pain. Mine gets frustrated, but he doesn’t do the work if I’m not numb. A friend told me about waiting longer. I’d noticed that I keep getting number and number for a couple hours after the appointment and don’t actually get feeling back for about 6 hours. So I figured waiting a little longer can’t hurt. But there are also different places the dentist can put the novacaine, since everyone’s nerves aren’t in the same place, and there are different things other than novacaine that will numb nerves. Keep working at it until you actually are numb when the dentist works. Otherwise you will put off having work done and may end up losing your teeth and who wants that!?
