Solo/ensemble in Eau Claire on Saturday. It was the warmest, most beautiful State music contest in my memory. But I did realize that I’ve been going there for at least 24 years, so I may have forgotten another nice one! I played for 8 events and they were spread throughout the whole day – 8:30 – 3:20 or something like that. So I got a lot of opportunity to listen to vocalists being critiqued, which is always helpful. It was a relaxing day, all-in-all. I think 4 events got 1 and 4 got two. My piano student got a 2, but I hadn’t even had a lesson with him since district, because it was so close to State, then we were gone a week and a half.
Today was another day up at UW-BC. The instructor was gone again, but I knew in advance she was having some sort of surgery today. The students are really not prepared for recital and juries, which are coming up really soon. She has missed four of their lessons this semester so far. That makes it hard for them to be prepared. And all but one of them are not good enough on the piano to learn the pieces themselves, which is also a problem. Next Monday (hopefully she will be there) is our last chance to practice before the recital. Yikes!
I’m being sued. Yes, the mean ladies are actually suing the city, me, the mayor, I’m not sure who else… I can’t imagine it will go very far, but it is very, VERY annoying. At least I won’t have to pay for it, because the City carries insurance for this sort of thing and it covers me, as a City employee. WHEN WILL THIS END???
That is SO CRAZY!! What on earth are they hoping to achieve by this? GAH. I’m so sorry that you have go to through all of this right now. 🙁
I’m glad that the contest went well, though. And the weather sounds nice! I was a little worried you’d have some late season snow or something after getting back home.
There really are some lovely places in Tennessee and Kentucky. 😉
I love you lots, Mom!!!
I’m just taking life in small bites for now. Make it through the morning, then the afternoon, then the evening… Another community center board meeting tonight and it just makes my stomach flip-flop when I think of it. But in 5 hours it will be over and I can concentrate on tomorrow.
You are right – there are some lovely places in Tennessee. I go on line frequently and use the satellite to get right in there and look at the places I like. We can get something quite nice on a few acres for $120,000 or less down there. Can’t touch it for that up here. It will probably be a manufactured home, though, because they seem to have a ton of them in TN.
Did you get the “behind the couch shelf” done?
I just got your letter today! Thanks for sending it! I loved hearing more about the rest of your trip. 🙂
And we haven’t quite finished the table, but we hope to do that this weekend. Justin got sick last weekend and ended up sleeping pretty much all day Saturday and Sunday. We did get the other outlet ordered from Amazon (thanks to a gift card for a thing I did at work, we got it for nothing!) and that’s arrived. And we’ve got the first coat of polyurethane on the boards that are getting that done. We’re only doing the parts that would show. But we had to stain the support pieces that we cut at the end because they were still very light colored and would show up. And we decided that we did lay that on pretty dark on the first pieces, so Justin sanded those lightly to tone that down a little and it did beautiful stuff to the grain on the wood.
So all the pieces are sanded and stained now. The three pieces that are getting poly on them have their first coat. Tomorrow I’m going to sand them lightly, and then on Thursday, Justin’s going to do a second coat of the poly. Friday they should all be dried, so Justin can get started getting the writing in. Friday’s going to be a full day for us, though, because I’ve got work and fasting labs and a massage and we both have chiropractor appointments, so it probably won’t actually all get pulled together until Saturday. But we’re SUPER EXITED to get it done and up into the house! We haven’t figure out what to do about lighting yet, but that’ll wait until we’ve got a little more fluidity in our finances.
And we’ve got the bookshelves going really well, too! Those are sanded and stained and we’re working on getting those their coats of poly, too. So hopefully those will be done by the Saturday after this one. I’ll put up pictures when we’re done.
Got to run — dinner just beeped. Talk with you again soon!
Love ya!!!
Kylene
These women are unbelievable! Who even has the time to dream up schemes like this, let alone carry it through? RIDICULOUS!!!!
Wow. I can’t believe what they even hope to accomplish by sueing the city and the mayor and you…. I feel like the craziness is simply multiplying out of control!
I think these things probably do get out of control when you add a lawyer to the mix – someone who can see dollar signs from a big settlement. Unfortunately he is believing their story and will soon find they haven’t a leg to stand on (my opinion, of course.)
