Work like usual today. The classes were a little small, but none were canceled due to lack of participants.
This evening is our annual New Year’s Eve party. (I missed last year because of our family get-together.) So I will be back over there at 5:30 and probably stay until it ends at 10:30. Then I will have 5 more hours of work and could take almost a whole day off this week if I wanted to. But I will save the hours for when I have to be gone to play for a funeral this Friday and for the Roselawn concert rehearsal next Monday morning.
I am, of course, contemplating my goals, dreams, wishes, etc. for next year. Lose weight. Be more social. Stay on a budget. All the normal stuff. I’d like to think of something new, but there are so many things I ought to do that I can’t think of things I’d like to do. Anybody have any new ideas?
They say that in order to work they need to be goals that are specific, measurable, have a time limit and be your own (not imposed!) and written down.
I’m going to try to think of that when I think about what I want for the new year.
Some ideas: give away a certain amount of money to those in need, have $10,000 in savings, read 10 books for your professional development, . . .
Whoa – 10 books for my professional development? I run a senior center – I’m not sure there are 10 books about that!!
Your goal “rules” are pretty much like the ones I heard – the SMART goals = specific, measurable, attainable (I like that one!!), realistic (sort of redundant, but not exactly the same as attainable), and time-bound.
But to do something different this year, I first made a list of the things that are really important to me. Then I made goals in just those areas. Sometimes I make wonderful goals in areas of my life that are not all that important – like reading books. So my goals this year have to do with staying in better touch with my kids and grandkids, acting in accordance with my beliefs, working on my fitness (not just my weight, although that is part of it), and working on my relationship with Don. We’ll see how it goes!!

Those are great goals!
