New bedroom

The bedroom is done. We used the router to make the trim fancy and painted it yesterday a.m. and Dad installed it last evening. We slept there last night. It was a long process, but I think it looks great.

We had one minor glitch, which was that the bed didn’t remotely fit through the stair opening. I thought all was lost, but Dad said he would just cut part of the wall away, over the door. We are going to put a ventilation vent there to cover the hole. And we are going to install it so it is easy to remove when we move out and have to get the bed back down. If we are going to have the master bedroom up there, there has to be a way to get a queen bed up and down the stairs!

Then we moved the living room into where the bedroom was. It is hard to get good pictures in such enclosed places, but you’ll get the idea:

Then the rest of the downstairs is much more open and spacious. And notice….. drum roll, please… I have a dining room table. Come for dinner, okay?

Winter is speeding by!!

Okay, it is pretty cold right about now, but do you know that in just a couple weeks we are already halfway through the winter (which in my book goes from October 15 through April 15?)  Don’t you just begin to think you might survive when January gets here? And better yet, in only 18 days we will be off to Georgia to enjoy a one week reprieve from the cold (I hope…) Then February will be here and we’ll be trying to get things done before Dad has his surgery (hernia on Feb. 15), then by the time he is better, it will be March. Make it through March and we will almost be to ground breaking for the house (again, I hope…). So, smile — winter is on it’s way out.

In other exciting news, I joined Weight Watchers again last night — not just the online, but the actual group, where you have to pay money to have someone else see your weight. Crazy, but I need that incentive. I’m excited. I even bought a pocket calculator (because they were on sale for 50% off!) that will figure the points for any packaged food, using the amount of protein, carbs, fat, and fiber. I went through the cupboard figuring everything and writing the points on the box or package. I’m also trying (so far, successfully) to eat an apple, an orange, a banana, and some stewed tomatoes every single day — they are free, so why not? Actually they are sort of figured in your points allotment, so it makes sense to eat them! And I like them. I also love pineapple, so I have to buy another one of those. So many fruits I love and they are all FREEEEEE! Can you tell I’m excited?!

1-1-11

I just love that date. And I’m looking forward to 1-11-11 and 11-1-11 and, best of all, 11-11-11 (which also happens to be Grandma Fritz’s birthday.)

I actually started 2011 still up, trying to finish a really good book, which I did finish at about 1:15 a.m. Then I couldn’t get to sleep until well after 2:00. I suppose I should be getting sleepy pretty soon, but I actually had a great day, despite the lack of sleep.  The weather wasn’t all that great, but we worked around the house. Gary came over and we did very detailed work on the house plans for a couple hours. Then we finished putting in the carpet pad and the carpet in the new bedroom. All it needs now is trim, covers on the outlets and switches, the actual lights (rather than the work lights), the rods and shelves in the closet, and our furniture moved in. I’m getting really excited – we should be in by next weekend, for sure!

Dad had to work at The Garage, so I took the tree down and packed up the other decorations while watching an incredibly good movie called The Ultimate Gift. I would definitely recommend it if you can get a hold of it.
